Mets OF Starling Marte, who has been dealing with oblique soreness, played right field in a minor league spring training game on Wednesday as he works toward a return.

At the plate, Marte took at-bats but didn't swing. He did, however, reach base on a bunt single.

More notable than Marte's appearance in the minor league game, though, was him playing right field instead of center.

Marte, who has played just 3.0 innings in a corner outfield spot since 2017 and has never played right field in the majors, could possibly play right for the Mets this season.

Brandon Nimmo, who has made it clear that he prefers to remain in center, improved his defense last season to the point where it could make sense to have him in center over Marte.

As far as when Marte might make his Mets debut, he hit off a tee on Tuesday and has been doing everything but swinging a bat against live pitching.

"He hit off the tee yesterday, so he’s right where he needs to be," Mets manager Buck Showalter said on Tuesday. "If he doesn’t have any setbacks, we’ve got a chance (for Opening Day)."
