In their search to bolster their pitching staff before the Aug. 31 trade deadline, the Yankees have called the San Francisco Giants to inquire about right-hander Kevin Gausman, according to league sources.
Gausman, 29, is 1-1 with a 4.65 ERA in five starts. Some of his peripheral statistics are more impressive; he is above-average in fastball spin and velocity, and induces more swings and misses than 80 percent of the league.
As SNY has previously reported, the Yanks have also called the Cleveland Indians, who might move Mike Clevinger, and the Seattle Mariners, who are likely selling Taijuan Walker and possibly Marco Gonzales.
GM Brian Cashman has surely made other calls that we haven’t yet sniffed out.
