As of last late November, the Nets remained open to a trade for Irving, who Brooklyn has not allowed to play this season after he refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Due to New York City mandate, Irving isn't allowed to play home games, so owner Joe Tsai and GM Sean Marks made the decision for him not to play at all despite being able to practice and participate in road games. They would welcome him right back if he does get the vaccine.
There is "renewed optimism," however, that Irving will return at some point this season, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. Kevin Durant and Irving have been communicating a lot recently, discussing the point guard's fit with the current team and breaking down Nets games.
As for Porzingis, the 26-year-old forward is averaging 29.8 minutes with the Mavs, scoring 19.5 points a game while hitting 45 percent of his shots.
But Dallas and owner Mark Cubin might want to get his lucrative contract off their books. Making $31.65 million this season, Porzingis is still due $33.8 million next season and he has a 2023-24 player option worth $36 million.
Irving himself has a 2022-23 player option worth $36.5 million.
