It’s unclear what else Brooklyn would seek in a deal with the Lakers. According to ESPN, Los Angeles has talked to several teams about potential trades involving Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Kyle Kuzma.
If Brooklyn moves Shamet, you’d think that the club would be looking for shooting. Shamet, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is extension eligible this offseason, shot 41 percent from the floor last season.
It’s worth noting that the Knicks had interest in acquiring Shamet in the trade that sent Marcus Morris Sr. to the Clippers. New York could send Brooklyn pick No. 19 or No. 21 and absorb Shamet’s deal into cap space (depending on the timing of the trade). The Pelicans, owners of the No. 17 pick, also have been interested in Shamet, per sources.
In addition to Shamet, teams have also had conversations with Brooklyn about trades involving DeAndre Jordan, sources confirm.
One of those discussions was around a three-team trade, sources said, but it’s unclear if there had been any traction in those talks.
The more straightforward move for Brooklyn is to trade Shamet to a team for its first-round pick.
With regard to Dallas’ interest in Shamet, he’d give the Mavericks another shooter to space the floor around Luka Doncic.
The Mavericks do not have a 2021 first-round pick to offer Brooklyn in a trade.
A trade of Jordan would be noteworthy for Brooklyn because Nets stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving took less money on their free agent deals in 2019 to allow the Nets to sign Jordan to a four-year, $40 million contract.
Sports Illustrated first reported that the Nets have had conversations with teams about a trade involving Jordan.
