Longtime Mets executive J.P. Ricciardi is a possibility to return to the team’s front office, according to industry sources.

A final decision has not been made on a Ricciardi return, but it has been seriously discussed. SNY reported the possibility of Ricciardi’s return last month. Michael Mayer of Metsmerized Online also reported on it Wednesday. It remains an active discussion with the Mets.

Ricciardi, a former Toronto Blue Jays GM, was a special assistant to Sandy Alderson from 2010-2018, and he served as co-interim GM after Alderson stepped down citing health issues. He left the organization soon after Brodie Van Wagenen took over as GM.

Ricciardi is currently a senior advisor to the San Francisco Giants.

Former pitcher and current MLB executive Chris Young is also under consideration for a front office job with the Mets.

The Mets are not yet close to making a hire, but are active in free agency nonetheless.
