We're counting down all of the major storylines for the New York teams in 2020. Here's a look at the Jets' list ...

5. Mekhi Becton's early returns

With the No. 11 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft the Jets stayed put and selected offensive tackle Becton from Louisville. The 6-foot-7, 364-pound lineman impressed scouts with his 5.1 second 40 yard dash time and was projected to be in the top group of lineman selected.

"He'll be the fourth one off the board," said one NFL source back in April before the draft. "He probably was always the fourth best, but then people fell in love with his size. The more they look, though, the more it's obvious the others are more pro-ready prospects and have fewer concerns."

The Jets took Becton over other offensive playmakers like Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy, and CeeDee Lamb. Becton also went two picks ahead of Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs, whom the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected to protect Tom Brady.

The rookie has begun to look like what was advertised.

4. Gregg Williams' final 24 hours

Gregg Williams has always been known for being in the middle of some drama throughout his coaching career.

In Week 13, up 28-24 with less than a minute left in the game, the then-defensive coordinator called an all-out blitz in a situation where the Raiders were clearly going to need to throw deep. Raiders rookie WR Henry Ruggs III flew past Jets CB Lamar Jackson for a game-winning 46 yard touchdown reception.

On Dec. 7, following the 31-28 loss, the Jets fired Williams and replaced him with Frank Bush.

With the Jets going to 0-12 after the loss, it was the final straw for Williams' tenure with the team.

3. Le'Veon Bell saga

When Bell signed a massive four-year, $52.5 million deal with the Jets prior to the 2019 season, many expected to see the same running back that was a first-team All-Pro selection with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But after Bell sat out the 2018 season during a contract holdout, some were unsure if Bell was going to be the same type of running back.

He ran for just 789 yards on 245 carries for three touchdowns in his first season with the Jets. Bell was known for being a pass-catching back, however, he caught only 66 passes for 461 yards and one score.

Bell had 79 rushing yards in two games for the Jets during the 2020 season before the team decided to release him on Oct. 13. The Jets had tried to trade him, but found no suitors, as Bell eventually signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

His Jets' tenure was not a long, memorable one. Instead, it will go down as a big free agent signing that didn't pan out.

2. Jamal Adams traded

The Jets selected Adams with the sixth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU, and the safety made his impact immediately.

He was named to the All-Rookie team after recording 83 combined tackles (63 solo), six pass deflections, and two sacks in 16 games (16 starts). Adams would go on to make the Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2019, in addition to making second-team All-Pro in 2018 and first-team All-Pro in 2019.

However, after failed contract negotiations and many trade rumors throughout the 2019 season, the Jets dealt Adams to the Seattle Seahawks on July 25. The Jets received a 2021 first-round pick and third-round pick, a 2022 first-round pick, and safety Bradley McDougald.

Adams has been very outspoken about his relationship with head coach Adam Gase, making it clear he "has nothing but love for the Jets organization" and no regrets for how his Jets career ended.

1. Darnold or ... someone else?

Sam Darnold had high expectations heading into his third season with the Jets, as the team was hoping he'd take a step forward under head coach Gase.

Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Darnold has gone 2-9 as the starter in 2020 while missing games due to a shoulder injury.

He's thrown for 1,942 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions -- in comparison, Darnold went 7-6 as the starter in 2019 with 3,024 yards and 19 touchdown passes with 13 interceptions.

His inconsistency and the Jets sitting with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft put the team at a crossroads: What should they do?

They could of course trade the pick. However, someone like Ohio State's Justin Fields or BYU's Zach Wilson should be sitting there at No. 2.
