The Rangers are trading Sam Carrick to the Sabres, according to multiple reports.

New York will receive the Sabres' third-round pick and the Blackhawks' sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Carrick was a valuable veteran presence in the bottom-six during his time on Broadway, but GM Chris Drury decided to cash in on the center in the midst of a retool.

He’ll now look to set the tone with the Sabres down the stretch.

"Carrick has been a big part of my days in New York," Adam Edström said of the trade rumors swirling around his teammate after the Rangers' 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday. "Whatever happens, it's out of my control. He's been a great teammate and a great friend and I'd love to still have him on my line."

The 34-year-old enjoyed a strong start with five points over the first month of the season, before ultimately slowing down offensively.

Carrick produced just three goals and two assists the rest of the year.

He’s remained extremely reliable in the faceoff dot, though, and has been one of the more physical presences on the team with a willingness to stand up to anyone.

Those attributes will make him a valuable asset for Buffalo, which looks to break its 14-season playoff drought.

Carrick leaves with 10 goals, 20 assists, 111 penalty minutes, 223 hits, and a 54.1 faceoff win percentage as a Ranger.

He had previously played with the Ducks, Maple Leafs and Oilers, and has 380 total games under his name.
