The Rangers were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3 on Thursday night at Amalie Arena.

Here are some takeaways...

- For the second straight game, the Rangers put together a dominating effort in the first period to jump ahead early. After a bit of a slow start offensively on both ends, New York broke through against Andrei Vasilevskiy, as Artemi Panarin buried a beautiful feed from Vincent Trocheck. Panarin, who now has 36 goals on the season, broke a two-game pointless streak while the red-hot Trocheck has now found the scorer's sheet in 13 of his last 15 games.

Just a few minutes later, Mika Zibanejad connected with defenseman Braden Schneider, who buried a one-timed wrister off a beautiful feed to increase the lead to 2-0. Recently acquired winger Jack Roslovic, who logged the secondary assist, scored a goal later on for his first two points as a Ranger.

Zibanejad went straight to the locker room after a puck deflected up into his face off his own stick on his way to the bench midway through the second, but he returned for the third period wearing a full face shield.

- The Rangers hadn't made many mistakes through two and a half periods, but a Johnny Brodzinski turnover with seven minutes remaining proved costly, as Brayden Point broke in and beat Igor Shesterkin to give Tampa Bay some life. That goal broke the star goalie's shutout streak, which stretched all the way back to the third period against the Panthers (166 mins, 30 secs).

Shesterkin went right back to standing on his head, but another defensive mistake left Anthony Duclair all alone in front for a juicy rebound, and he evened things up at two heading into the last 20. The former Ranger, who was acquired at the trade deadline, has now scored in four consecutive games.

- Roslovic scored a go-ahead goal early in the third period, but it was all Tampa Bay from there. Point took over as he scored the game-tying goal early in the third, picked up an assist on Steven Stamkos' go-ahead power-play goal, finished off the hat trick with six minutes remaining, and added another assist on Nikita Kucherov's empty-netter.

Tampa's big guns simply took over when it mattered most, as Point finished with three goals and three assists for a career-high six points. Kucherov had five points of his own with a goal and four assists.

- Ryan Lindgren went to the locker room after sliding to block a shot up high midway through the third period, but like Zibanejad, he quickly returned.
