The Rangers picked up their second win in as many nights, defeating the crosstown rival Islanders 4-0 on Monday night at MSG.

Here are some takeaways...

- It appeared as if the Islanders had taken the first lead of the game midway through the first period when captain Anders Lee snuck one in from an odd angle on the power play, but the Rangers challenged the call and after a quick review the play was deemed offsides.

- The Rangers received some puck luck later in the period as Zac Jones threw a shot at the net and it perfectly deflected off Will Cuylle’s head and past Ilya Sorokin for the game's opening tally. Jones has been terrific jumping into the lineup over the past two games for the Blueshirts -- this marked his 100th career game.

- J.T. Miller picked up the secondary assist on the Cuylle goal, helping him extend his point streak to six games. The veteran winger added a goal of his own later on to give him his sixth multi-point showing in 11 games since rejoining the Rangers in a deal with the Canucks -- he's given them exactly what they were looking for.

- Will Borgen, acquired from Seattle as part of the Kaapo Kakko deal, has been another stellar pickup for the Rangers. The veteran defenseman fired home a perfectly-placed top-shelf snipe off a drop pass from Sam Carrick late in the first period for his fourth goal of the season.

- Brett Berard just missed scoring his second goal in as many games when him and Matt Rempe broke in on a 2-on-0 rush off a nice stretch pass from Igor Shesterkin. The rookie wasn't credited with any shots on goal on the night, but he has provided a nice spark since returning to the lineup, and he should see an extended run down the stretch.

- The Islanders pulled their goalie with just over five minutes remaining in regulation in a desperate move which didn't work out, as Artemi Panarin potted home the empty-netter to cap off the victory. The star winger has put together back-to-back multi-point showings.

- Shesterkin wasn't tested all too often but he stepped up and made the big saves when the Rangers needed him to. He stopped all 20 shots he faced on the night -- excluding the overturned call -- as he picked up his 21st win and fourth shutout of the season.

- Mika Zibanejad saw his point streak snapped at six games, but his presence was felt on both ends of the ice all night, again. He finished with three shots on goal and blocked a pair of shots on the other end as he continues playing much better hockey than the first half of the season.

- The Rangers are now tied for the last Eastern Conference Wild Card spot for the first time since late December.

- One negative for the Rangers: They picked up their NHL-leading 12th bench minor of the season when they were called for too many men late in the first period. They were able to kill the penalty off this time around, but can’t keep making these mental mistakes in big games down the stretch.
