The Rangers defeated the Montreal Canadiens 7-2 on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre to push their winning streak to four games.

Here are the takeaways...

- The Rangers have been an offensive powerhouse over the first few games of the season and they continued that in this one. Any talks of a potential trap game were quickly put to rest as New York scored four goals in the first period, two of which came on their first two shots of the game.

- After Jacob Trouba blocked a pair of shots in the defensive zone, New York quickly transitioned things the other way, before Mika Zibanejad eventually opened the scoring with a wicked wrister. The star center has been struggling at even strength again this year, but he was all over the place in this one, finishing with a season-high five shots on goal.

- His linemate Reilly Smith added a goal of his own just a few minutes later, breaking into the Montreal zone all alone after perfectly picking defenseman Lane Hutson’s pocket in the neutral zone. The winger has been looking like a terrific addition early on as he recorded his second straight two-point night and had three shots on goal.

- The third line proved to be a force for New York all night as well with Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko, and Will Cuylle all putting together multi-point showings. Chytil scored twice on the power play and added an assist, Kakko picked up his first goal of the season to go along with a pair of assists, and Cuylle added two helpers of his own.

- It wasn’t just the forwards who were productive in this one, as Braden Schneider also added a goal and an assist to his tally. The young defenseman has been looking to improve his offensive game this season and he was certainly all over the place on both ends tonight.

- Artemi Panarin had numerous chances to add to his impressive goal total in the early going but he was stonewalled each time. The star winger still added an assist on Zibanejad’s goal, giving him points in all six games this season and bringing his total to a league-leading 13.

- While this one ended up being lopsided, Igor Shesterkin was tested early, as Montreal had 11 shots on goal in the first period. He also had an early flurry and two power-play chances in the third, but the All-Star goaltender did his thing and shut them down. He finished the night stopping 21 of the 23 shots he faced to take home his fourth win of the season.

- New York closed out their road trip with a perfect record and they’ve now recorded points in each of their first six games of the season for the first time in franchise history.
