Well, that didn't take long.

Pete Alonso, in his first spring training game with the Baltimore Orioles, did something he did 264 times over his 1,008 regular-season games with the Mets: hit a home run.

Alonso, batting for a third time in Friday's game in Sarasota, got a first-pitch hanging curveball from Yankees minor league signee Bradley Hanner and didn't miss it, cranking it deep to left field for a two-run homer, the first runs of the Grapefruit League contest between the two AL East teams.

"First one's out of the way," Alonso said on the MASN broadcast later of his blast, which left that bat with a 107.2 mph exit velocity.

"Obviously, hitting homers feels amazing, doesn't matter what time of year. Happy to break the seal," Alonso added after the game, via MLB.com. "I feel honored to wear [this uniform]. I feel great in it, I feel like I look good in it. So, it's fantastic. I honestly couldn't feel any better."

“Pete wanted it, and he made the most of it,” Baltimore manager Craig Albernaz said of the first baseman’s final plate appearance. “He just wants to play.”

Alonso came close to putting the O's on the board in his second time up, but Yankee center fielder Kenedy Corona made a running, diving catch on a smashed liner to the gap in left center to end the third inning and strand a runner at first.

The ex-Met saw two pitches his first time up against one of the Yankees' top pitching prospects, Elmer Rodriguez, swinging through a sinker before tapping out to first.

The Alonso home run was all the scoring in the game as the Orioles beat the Yanks 2-0.
