Miguel Andujar has requested a trade out of the Yankees, according to reports Saturday by Hector Gomez and The Athletic's Ken Rostenthal.
New York optioned Andujar to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Friday's game, a 13-0 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Andujar told manager Aaron Boone afterward "that he doesn't want to be with the Yankees and wants to be traded," Gomez reported.
Boone did not specify what Andujar told him but confirmed that the two had a conversation.
"Like a pro," Boone said when asked about how Andujar handled being sent down. "Miggy's a great guy, and handled it like a pro, but understanding that that's a difficult option and understanding that he's a big part of what we've done here and certainly wants to be here. So I understand that's a tough one."
This is "not the first time he has asked out because of his lack of a consistent opportunity," Rosenthal said.
Andujar batted fifth and started in left field Friday, going 1-for-5 with a run scored. He reached base with his infield single to shortstop in the fifth inning.
In 12 games with the Yankees this season, Andujar sports a slash line of .268/.279/.596, plus three RBI. He has slashed .277/.308/.462 with 34 home runs and 117 RBI through 244 career regular-season games.
