With the 2023 season officially in the books, what better way to look ahead to the 2024 season than to take a peek at the Mets and Yankees World Series odds for next year?

Both teams are coming off disappointing seasons where neither of them made the postseason. The Mets finished in fourth place in the NL East at 75-87 while the Yanks also came in fourth in their division with an 82-80 record.

Despite the less-than-stellar performances this season, both clubs should enter next year with at least some optimism that they can be in the playoff hunt, especially after seeing what the Arizona Diamondbacks and, to a lesser extent, the Texas Rangers just did.

Oddsmakers seem to agree as the Yankees have the sixth best odds to win the championship at 15-1, tied with the Tampa Bay Rays. Meanwhile, the Mets are tied with the reigning NL Pennant champion Diamondbacks for the 12th-best odds to lift the trophy at 25-1, along with the Minnesota Twins who won the AL Central.

The favorites to win it all are the Atlanta Braves at +650 while the Los Angeles Dodgers (7-1), Houston Astros (9-1), current-champion Rangers (9-1) and Philadelphia Phillies (10-1) round out the top-five.

For the Amazins’, while their 2023 season was a complete letdown after winning 101 games in 2022, they will go into next season with a new manager, a healthy Edwin Diaz, a solid core group of position players and some top prospects that might be able to help right away, all with their new president of baseball operations, David Stearns, running the show.

As for the Bronx Bombers who were decimated with injuries last year, they’ll turn to a hopefully healthy Aaron Judge and another stellar season from Gerrit Cole, as well as some interesting young prospects to get back to form.

Of course, both teams will make moves during the offseason to address key areas of need and are also in on top free agents such as Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Whoever lands those two and others will certainly see a shift in their World Series odds.
