Who is starting for the Mets?

Jose Quintana will make his eighth start of the season for the Mets and look to bounce back for another effective outing.

After pitching well in his first six starts of the season since coming back from a long stint on the injured list after the All-Star break, the left-hander was tagged for five runs on nine hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in a 7-0 loss to Atlanta last week. The veteran did have five strikeouts on the day.

Overall, Quintana has pitched to a 3.73 ERA (3.37 FIP) and 1.390 WHIP over 41.0 innings in his first season in Queens, allowing 18 runs (17 earned) on 40 hits with 30 strikeouts and 17 walked.

In the 34-year-old’s 11 previous appearances (eight starts) against the Rangers he has pitched to a 3.81 ERA (21 earned in 49.2 innings). The southpaw will have to look out for Austin Hedges (4-for-6) and Marcus Semien (6-for-13), who have had his number in previous battles.

Who is starting for the Rangers?

Texas will send out left-hander Andrew Heaney to make his 26th start of the 2023 campaign.

The 32-year-old is looking to stretch out a bit more, as he has only gone deeper than 4.1 innings in each of his last three starts. In his five previous outings during the month of August, he has allowed seven runs on 23 hits and six walks over 21.0 innings for a 3.00 ERA. The lefty has recorded 24 strikeouts, 11 of which came in one six-inning outing on Aug. 1.

Heaney has pitched to a 4.34 ERA (4.93 FIP) with a 1.357 WHIP over 122.1 innings, surrendering 64 runs (59 earned) on 117 hits with 22 home runs. He has struck out 127 batters and walked 49.

The veteran isn’t unfamiliar with pitching in New York, but he had a stint to forget with the Yankees, pitching to a 7.32 ERA (29 earned over 35.2 innings) in 12 appearances after coming over in a trade deadline deal in 2021.
