The Mets swept this round of the Subway Series, defeating the New York Yankees 3-2 on Wednesday night at Citi Field.

Here are five things to know...

1. With a two-run lead in the eighth, Buck Showalter turned things over to David Peterson, who started out on the wrong note by walking Anthony Rizzo to get things started. Gleyber Torres then launched a two-run homer over the wall in right, and just like that, the game was tied.

Going to Peterson, who threw 26 pitches against the Padres on July 24, proved to be a costly decision, as it negated a sterling effort turned in by the Mets' starter.

2. The Yankees threatened in the top of the ninth with a runner on first and two outs for Judge, but he grounded into a force-out to send the game to the bottom of the ninth. Judge went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts.

In the bottom half of the inning, Eduardo Escobar roped a leadoff double, and he was moved to third on a perfect sac bunt by Tomas Nido. With the infield pulled in, Brandon Nimmo hit a comebacker that couldn't be handled by Wandy Peralta to put runners at the corners and one out. Starling Marte then played the role of hero, singling to left to end the game and give the Mets the sweep.

2. Max Scherzer was in a groove early, needing just six pitches to get through the first inning and 20 to get through the first two. He faced an early test in the third, with Aaron Judge at the plate with two on and two outs, but Scherzer used a nasty slider to get the punchout.

Scherzer allowed a leadoff double to Josh Donaldson in the top of the fifth, but in classic Scherzer style he buckled in to strike out a pair and then get DJ LeMahieu to line out to short to get out of the jam.

Scherzer found himself in another tough spot in the sixth, as a hit-by-pitch and a Matt Carpenter single put runners on the corners with two outs. But once again, Scherzer found his way out of trouble, getting Donaldson to bounce one back to him for the third out.

3. Francisco Lindor delivered a clutch knock in the bottom of the third inning. Just when it looked like the Mets were about to squander a leadoff double from Tomas Nido, Lindor poked a double into right field, falling in for an RBI hit to increase the Mets' lead to 2-0.

Lindor, who finished the night 1-for-3 with a walk, now has 67 RBI on the season.

4. Scherzer vs, Judge Round Four came in the top of the seventh inning, once again in a huge spot. With runners on the corners and two outs and the Mets leading 2-0, Scherzer threw Judge an array of sliders, striking him out for the third time in four at-bats.

That would be Scherzer's final out of the night, as he commanded the mound for 7.0 innings, scattering five hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Scherzer lowered his season ERA to 2.09.

5. Though Peterson gave up the lead, the Mets got an outstanding effort from Seth Lugo out of the pen. Lugo gave the Mets five outs, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
