The Mets couldn't get any offense going, falling to the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 on Friday night at Citi Field.

Here are some key takeaways ...

- Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch as a New York Met was sent over the fence in left, as Jonathan India rained on the right-hander’s debut with a solo home run.

But after that early blemish, Carrasco settled in well in his Mets’ debut. He threw 58 pitches over four innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out four and walking one. As Carrasco continues to ramp up following his injury, his 2021 debut was certainly a step in the right direction, as his fastball sat in the 93-94 mph range.

- The Mets answered back in the bottom of the first inning. After a Brandon Nimmo single to lead things off, Jeff McNeil ripped a double down the right field line to score Nimmo all the way from first. McNeil extended his hitting streak to 16 games with the hit. The Mets went on to load the bases with nobody out against Sonny Gray, but a double play ball from Jonathan Villar would ultimately end the inning with no further damage.

- The game stayed tied into the fifth inning, but Miguel Castro couldn’t keep it that way. After a two-out double from India, Mets villain Jesse Winker gave the Reds the lead with an RBI single to make it a 2-1 Cincy lead.

- In the top of the sixth, Joey Votto became the eighth player in MLB history to hit a home run in seven straight games, as he demolished a solo shot to dead center off of Drew Smith, his 21st of the year, giving the Reds a 3-1 lead.

- After a productive first inning, the Mets' bats went ice cold. In the middle innings, 15 straight Mets hitters were retired. James McCann finally snapped that with a one-out single in the eighth, and a Nimmo walk put the tying runs on base. The Mets would leave both runners on, though, as McNeil fouled out and Pete Alonso rolled into a force-out at third.

- Anthony Banda pitched a scoreless eighth for the Mets, but he was tagged for three runs in the ninth, two of which coming on India's second homer of the night, which made it a 6-1 game.

- Brandon Drury added another pinch-hit to his resume, as he doubled home a run with two outs in the ninth. Drury is now 8-for-16 as a pinch-hitter this season.
