The Mets burned more pitchers on Tuesday in their 4-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Here are the takeaways...

1. Pete Alonso kept up his power stroke, blasting a 410-foot solo home run in the first inning. Robert Stock returned the favor almost immediately, though, as Jonathan India tied the game on Stock’s second pitch. Stock ran into more trouble, putting guys on first and second in the inning, but avoided further trouble. In the second, the Mets had a threat of their own, with runners on second and third with two outs, but Stock grounded out to end the inning. However, Stock injured himself trying to beat out the groundball, and his work was done after just one inning. The Mets said Stock left the game with right hamstring tightness.

2. Stephen Nogosek entered the game, and retired the first five batters he faced. But he allowed back-to-back solo home runs to Joey Votto and Aristides Aquino to give the Reds a 3-1 lead in the third. Those were the only two runs Nogosek allowed in his three innings of work, as he struck out five and walked none.

3. The Mets had the lead run at the plate with one out in the fourth, but Jonathan Villar and Nogosek struck out to end the threat. They rallied again in the seventh, this time getting their first two men on base with Brandon Nimmo at the plate as the lead run again. Nimmo struck out looking (for the third time, he struck out four times in total), but Alonso reached on an error, and Villar scored all the way from second as the ball trickled away from Votto. That brought up Jeff McNeil, but he grounded into a 1-6-3 double play to kill the rally.

4. Yennsy Diaz tossed a scoreless fifth inning, while Geoff Hartlieb allowed two hits in 1.1 innings. Aaron Loup entered the game with one out and a man on second in the seventh and promptly loaded the bases. Tyler Stephenson delivered a sac fly to make it a 4-2 game, but Aquino was caught on the basepaths to end the inning.

5. In the eighth, the Mets had the tying run at the plate with one out. Michael Conforto struck out, but Luis Guillorme doubled in a run to cut the deficit to 4-3, but Villar grounded out to end the inning.

6. Drew Smith entered the game in the eighth, and allowed a hard double to Eugenio Suarez, but he was gunned down at third trying for the triple for the first out. He walked the next batter, but retired the next three for no damage.

7. The Mets got the tying run on with a leadoff walk by Dominic Smith in the ninth inning against Amir Garrett. But Nimmo got the golden sombrero, Alonso struck out, and McNeil popped out to end the ballgame.

8. The Mets went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday.
