Five takeaways from Sunday's game
1. The Blue Jays broke things open in the sixth inning. After Brad Brach walked all three batters he faced to load the bases, Jared Hughes walked the first batter he faced, bringing in the Blue Jays’ third run of the afternoon. Santiago Espinal then cleared the bases with a double down the left field line, and Danny Jansen added an RBI single himself.
2. Dominic Smith is still the Mets’ MVP of the 2020 season. He opened up the game’s scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. Todd Frazier was thrown out at home on the hit for the final out of the frame.
3. Lourdes Gurriel gave the Blue Jays the lead with a two-run home run in the second inning. Those were the only two runs that David Peterson would allow in his five innings of work, as he walked two and struck out two.
4. The Mets had a bit of a threat in the eighth inning, as Frazier drove in a run with a single, and runners were on the corners with none out. Smith grounded into a fielder's choice that drove in another run. But those were the only runs the Mets would rack up in the frame.
5. Jeff McNeil looked like he was a bit shaken up in the game, but when he left the game, the Mets announced it was due to a stomach bug.
