Five things to know from Saturday's game

1. After retiring the first two batters in the first inning, Michael Wacha walked Freddie Freeman and then allowed a two-run home run to Marcell Ozuna, who’s proven to be a thorn in the Mets’ side early on this season. The two-out runs continued to haunt him in the second, allowing back-to-back RBI doubles from Tyler Flowers and Ronald Acuna Jr. and then a bloop RBI single from Ozzie Albies, putting the Braves up 5-0 early.

Wacha got through four innings for the Mets, but at 96 pitches, his night ended there. The right-hander allowed five earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two.

2. The Mets had a chance to get back in the game in the fourth inning, as they loaded the bases with one out off Braves starter Touki Toussaint. But Wilson Ramos went down on strikes and Amed Rosario grounded out to third to kill the threat and leave the bases loaded. Toussaint went just four innings, but he held the Mets scoreless and struck out five hitters.

3. In the fifth inning, the Mets loaded the bases again with one out, this time off of Luke Jackson. The Mets were able to come through for a run this time, Robinson Cano was able to drive in a run with a sac fly on a bullet line drive to right. Cano also had two more hits and is now hitting .393 on the season.

4. Franklyn Kilome made his major league debut out of the bullpen in the fifth inning. Acquired by the Mets in a 2018 deal that sent Asdrubal Cabrera to Philadelphia, Kilome had not pitched in a game at any level since 2018 Tommy John surgery. The right-hander had some control issues early on, hitting Dansby Swanson with a breaking ball, and he allowed a run on an Ender Inciarte RBI single. He did record his first big league strikeout by getting Tyler Flowers to swing and miss on a fastball.

Kilome came back out to pitch the seventh, allowing a solo home run to Acuna to put the Braves up 7-1. But to his credit, Kilome gave the Mets some valuable outs after Wacha struggled to stick in the game, pitching 4.0 innings, while allowing two earned runs and striking out five.

5. Alonso continues to scuffle for the Mets. Though he recorded a single in his first at-bat, Alonso ended up 1-for-5 with two strikeouts and six left on base.

The Mets and Braves continue their four-game set at Truist Park on Sunday at 1:10 PM on SNY. Rookie David Peterson will face Braves righty Kyle Wright.
