The Mets scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat the Nationals 7-6 in dramatic fashion. >> Box Score
Four Takeaways from Friday's game
1) Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the ninth, JD Davis gave the Mets some hope with a leadoff double down the third-base line. Wilson Ramos then singled up the middle, giving the Mets first and third. Todd Frazier then delivered maybe his biggest hit as a Met, crushing a three-run shot just inside the left-field foul poul.
Joe Panik then recorded his first hit as a Met, a single up the middle. Juan Lagares tried to bunt, but Panik was thrown out at second on the fielder's choice. With two away, Amed Rosario singled to the left side, setting the stage for Michael Conforto, who delivered with a walkoff single to win the game.
2) Marcus Stroman's Citi Field debut got off to an electric start. The Medford, N.Y. native struck out seven through the first three innings, but he got into trouble in the fourth, allowing three runs, including a two-run home run from Juan Soto. Stroman battled back, though, and in after a shutdown fifth inning, he got out of a second-and-third jam with one out. He struck out a season-high nine batters.
3) Nats starter Stephen Strasburg was perfect through the first three innings, but the Mets got to him in the fourth. After Jeff McNeil led off the inning with a walk, Pete Alonso clubbed a two-out, two-run home run to put the Mets on the board. The next batter, Davis, hit a solo shot to right field, tying the game at 3-3 and getting the Citi Field crowd on their feet.
4) Mickey Callaway made the interesting decision to put Stroman back out to start the seventh inning. The right-hander already had 102 pitches, and after walking Trea Turner to start the frame, he was then quickly pulled. Justin Wilson struck out Adam Eaton, but he stayed in the game to face Anthony Rendon, who lifted a two-run home run to give the Nats a 5-3 lead. With Turner scoring, Stroman was tagged with his fourth earn run of the night in six innings.
