Five things to know about Friday's game

1) In the bottom of the ninth inning of a scoreless game, the Mets turned the ball to Jacob Rhame. Coming off of his one-game suspension, Rhame walked two batters in the inning, but with two away, Joe Panik struck out to send the game into extra innings.The Mets stuck with Rhame to start the 10th. After walking Alex Dickerson to start the inning, Pablo Sandoval blooped a ball to left, and after Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith had some miscommunication, the ball fell in for an error charged to Smith, allowing Dickerson to score the winning run all the way from first base.

2) Jacob deGrom dazzled through seven innings on Friday night. Though the Mets couldn't give him any run support, deGrom was as dominant as he's been all season, allowing just three hits while striking out 10. He allowed just one extra-base hit, a double to Kevin Pillar in the fifth. DeGrom was pulled after 108 pitches, 74 of which was strikes. He also passed Ron Darling for sixth place on the Mets' franchise strikeout list.

3) Jeff McNeil continues to be a menace to opposing teams at the beginning of the games. For the fourth time in the Mets' last five contests, McNeil record a base hit to lead off the game. McNeil also made a pivotal play in the outfield in the seventh, backtracking on a line drive from Pillar to make the grab. If McNeil wouldn't have made the play, Brandon Crawford would have scored easily from second base.

4) Mickey Callaway had Robinson Cano batting out of the cleanup spot on Friday night. The second baseman doubled to right field in the fourth inning with two outs, but was left stranded when Wilson Ramos flew out to right field. Cano went 1-4 at the plate with two strikeouts. Cano was the only Met to reach second base all night.

5) Tyler Beede entered the game with an ERA of 5.44, but he eased his way though the Mets' lineup on Friday. Beede held the Mets to just three hits, but he maintained a much lower pitch count than deGrom. The right-hander gave the Giants eight terrific innings, throwing just 89 pitches.

The Mets and Giants continue their four-game set on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. Walker Lockett (0-1, 11.74 ERA) starts for the Mets in place of Zack Wheeler against Giants' righty Jeff Samardzija (7-7, 3.93 ERA).
