The Mets were going for the sweep, but the Marlins decided to walk it off on a homer in the ninth inning to avoid that at loanDepot park on Sunday.

Takeaways from the game

1) Nick Fortes absolutely turned on an Adam Ottavino slider in the bottom of the ninth inning and sent it over the left field fence to walk it off, 3-2. The pitch wasn't remotely close to a strike, but that's how it goes sometimes.

2) David Peterson took a load off the bullpen in this one, tossing seven innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out eight. His only two blunders were the double to Jon Berti in the first that eventually led to a sac fly from Garrett Cooper, and a solo shot to Miguel Rojas in the third. Other than that, the fastball location was working to help set up the breaking stuff.

Peterson’s ERA on the year has dipped to 3.10.

3) The Mets broke through on the board in the third inning when Brandon Nimmo wasted no time to take the first pitch from Daniel Castano over the center field wall to tie the game, 1-1. Then, Pete Alonso tacked on to his league-leading RBI total, shooting a weak fly ball to right field where no one was and collected a double.

4) Just before the walk off, Luis Guillorme showed us once again why he's called "Las Manos," levitating off the ground to make an insane catch on a line drive.

5) Nimmo finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, but the Mets had just two hits off the Marlins' pitching staff in this one. Castano also went seven innings for the Fish.
