The Mets couldn’t handle the Marlins’ offense in a 10-2 loss in their penultimate spring training game of the year Sunday.

Takeaways from the game

1) Mike Montgomery got the start in this one, and it didn’t look good for someone vying for a spot in the Mets’ bullpen. He allowed five runs on six hits (one homer), while striking out two and walking one over 2.2 innings of work. With a 6.14 ERA now, it wasn’t the time at all for Montgomery to have a bad outing. But, with four days until Opening Day and roster decisions to be made, it may come back to haunt him.

2) Edwin Diaz wants to erase this outing of his. He let up three runs on four hits, while striking out three over his inning of work. Not what the Mets want to see from their closer at this stage.

3) Michael Conforto was the only Met that had a solid day at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with a double coming in the first inning. Brandon Nimmo, Albert Almora Jr. and Luis Guillorme were the only other starters to collect a hit.

4) Nimmo’s hit, though, was a home run that went to right center field. His bat has looked good in the leadoff spot, hitting .292 with an .882 OPS this spring

5) A rare Miguel Castro run came on a solo homer for the Marlins in this one, but his 1.42 ERA is still looking very good entering the season.

What’s Next

Before camp breaks, the Mets play their final spring game on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals at 12:05 p.m. It will be Taijuan Walker starting.
