The Mets are pushing Taijuan Walker's next start back in order to give him extra rest.

Walker tossed 5.0 innings this past Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field in what was game one of a seven-inning doubleheader, allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out five. He threw 68 pitches.

Per Mike Puma of The New York Post, Walker -- who had been scheduled to pitch against the Braves on Wednesday in Atlanta, will now pitch on Friday against the Yankees in the Bronx.

Marcus Stroman, who pitched this past Sunday against the Phillies, will now start on Saturday against the Yankees on an extra day of rest.

Because the Mets have an extra starter at their disposal right now due to Jerad Eickhoff and Tylor Megill both being in the rotation, David Peterson will slide into Walker's scheduled spot on Wednesday on regular rest.

Eickhoff is starting against the Washington Nationals on Monday, with Megill set to get the start on Tuesday against the Braves.

After Peterson starts on Wednesday, Jacob deGrom is expected to start on Thursday.
