Mets RHP Jacob deGrom provided another quality start and the offense, but it wasn't enough in a 2-1 loss to the Braves.

Things you should know about tonight's game...

1) Jacob deGrom took his league-leading 1.82 ERA to the mound on Friday against the Braves. Johan Camargo took deGrom deep in the second inning, giving Atlanta an early 1-0 lead. Run support for deGrom has been lacking all season, so he took matters into his own hands with an RBI single in the third.

After recording the first two outs in the fifth inning, deGrom allowed back-to-back doubles to the Braves' one and two hitters, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies. He, then, settled in, shutting down the Braves' offense for the rest of the night and recorded a total nine strikeouts. DeGrom's ERA is up to 1.85 on the season, which is still the best in the league.

2) The Mets' offense was otherwise quieted by Braves' starter Anibal Sanchez as well as the bullpen. They managed to notch only two hits in the game.

3) Anthony Swarzak pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, continuing his impressive stretch as of late. Swarzak has not let up a run in his last four appearances.

Kristan Bravo, SNY.tv:

The Mets' defense was strong behind deGrom throughout the game, but the bats once again could not get him the run support he needed for a victory. deGrom is now 5-7 on the season with an ERA below two. He continues to impress with regularity and will be a very worthy CY Young candidate if he stays the course these next two months.

Frustration is at an all-time high for a team that can never get the job done for their ace. In his second game back from the disabled list, Todd Frazier went 0-4 at the plate. Frazier, who was hitless on Thursday as well, was visibly upset after striking out with a runner on in the sixth.

In his first start for the Mets at first base, Jose Bautista helped complete an impressive 4-3-5 double play in the second inning with a perfect throw to third. However, his struggles at the plate continued. Bautista came into the game carrying a hitless streak in his last 15 at bats. He went 0-3 on Friday with a walk.

Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, and Jose Reyes each secured impressive catches in a solid defensive showing by the team, but could not duplicate this productivity at the plate. Conforto is 0-7 on the series so far.

News and notes...

Friday marked deGrom's 19th straight start allowing three runs or less and his seventh straight start without a win.

The Mets have fallen to 19 games below .500, their worst position of the season.

Following a day off, Amed Rosario recorded one of the Mets' two hits in the game. According to Mickey Callaway, Rosario will be granted several days off per week to improve his game holistically.

What's next...

The Mets will play the third game of their four-game series with the Braves Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Citi Field on SNY. Zack Wheeler gets the start against Kevin Gausman, who was just traded to the Braves before the deadline.
