The Mets announced that Ronny Mauricio underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove scar tissue in his right knee earlier this week.
The club says that the infielder still remains on track to be back on the diamond this offseason and he will progress through his rehab process as his knee tolerates.
"Not the news that you want but that’s part of the rehab process," manager Carlos Mendoza said. "He’ll be back, just a little bit of a setback. He’ll be back."
Mauricio is currently missing the entire season due to a torn ACL he suffered while running the bases during a Dominican Winter League game with his team, Tigres Del Licey.
The top prospect was on first base and started towards second in a stolen base attempt, but after stopping short he fell and grabbed his right knee, before walking off the field with trainers.
Mauricio had gotten off to a strong start in the Winter League and he was looking to carry that momentum into spring training as he competed for playing time at second or third base.
He also showed some positive signs during his brief big-league debut in 2023, popping four doubles and two homers while also stealing seven bases over the final 26 games of the season.
With the remainder of this season and all of next offseason to fully recover, Mauricio will be in the mix to compete for playing time again during spring training.
