The Mets announced Tuesday prior to the series finale against the Miami Marlins that Dom Smith has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, while Seth Lugo was placed on paternity leave.
New York gave Smith ample chance to win the designated hitter role -- J.D. Davis was also vying for it among others -- and he hit .186/.287/.256 with a .543 OPS over 39 games. Because of that, the Mets sent him down to Syracuse to get his swing, and confidence, back.
It seems he's done that, slashing .347/.438/.785 with five doubles, two homers and 10 RBI in 15 games.
Smith will be looking to continue that streak in the bigs and turn things around.
