The Mets can say goodbye to any megadeal they might have been planning to spend on Mookie Betts.

The All-Star outfielder and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a monster 12-year contract extension worth $365 million, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Already playing on a one-year deal worth $27 million, Betts has a whopping total of $392 million over 13 years.

Betts’ extension tops Mike Trout’s with the Angels last season of 10 years and $360 million, making it the largest extension in league history.

This past offseason when the Boston Red Sox weren’t willing to give Betts an extension, they opened up the trade market on him. The Dodgers were the eventual winner in that pursuit, but other teams were in on the 27-year-old. That included GM Brodie Van Wagenen and the Mets, who reportedly “made numerous calls” with Boston.

Jeff McNeil was supposedly the main crux in a potential trade, with the Mets unwilling to let him go given Betts only had one year of team control. Some other packages included Brandon Nimmo or J.D. Davis as well as one of Andres Gimenez or Ronny Mauricio, per the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

SNY’s Andy Martino reported that the pursuit of Betts never really grew serious because someone would have had to take on Jed Lowrie or Yoenis Cespedes to have their contracts off the books.

So LA will be Betts’ home for a very long time, and he receives the contract he deserves. If the Mets still had him in mind for free agency, it’s back to the drawing board.
