Pete Alonso has been named the Mets' lone representative for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, which will take place on July 16 in Texas.

This is Alonso’s third consecutive All-Star selection and the fourth of his career, making him the 11th player in franchise history to reach that mark.

He passed SNY's own Keith Hernandez for the most appearances by a first baseman in team history.

“It’s really cool,” Alonso said. “I feel really blessed. It’s really elite company, so it’s such an honor and I’m very humbled and happy to be able to partake. I’m really excited and it’s going to be fun getting out there.”

The slugger has been having a bit of a down season, hitting just .243 while striking out 80 times and producing a career-low .789 OPS through 88 games.

The 29-year-old impending free agent has been able to remain a force in the middle of New York's high-powered lineup, though, as he ranks sixth in the National League with 18 homers.

"He got hot, then he got cold," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. "This is a guy who can carry us. I like the at-bats as of late, I think he's making progress as far as the chases go. The impact is there, he's a game-changer. When he's at the plate anything can happen."

Alonso certainly has been swinging a better bat of late, as he's coming off one of his best months of the season, posting 12 extra base-hits and an .898 OPS across 24 June games.

While he is happy with how he’s been performing in certain areas of his game, the slugger is hoping to be able to carry things over to the second half of the season

“I’m really pleased with some parts but I’m pumped for better things to come,” he said. “I think that progressively I made some adjustments along the way and I think that it’s been really nice finding success as the season’s gone along.

“I want to keep continuing that and keep helping this team win games. We’ve come such a long way collectively to get back to .500 and I think this is a really good opportunity to keep moving forward in a positive manner.”
