It may have been a Monday game in August against the Marlins, but the Mets had Citi Field buzzing and for good reason.

J.D. Davis, Michael Conforto and Pete Alonso all hit solo home runs in the seventh inning to rally back from a 4-2 deficit to beat the Marlins and move one game over .500 for the first time since May 2. The Mets are now two games back of a Wild Card spot and have won 11 of their last 12 games.

Finally, the fans have something to cheer about again.

"It was as electric as I've ever seen it," Conforto said. "...The crowd was awesoe tonight. After Pete's home run -- the dugout, the crowd, it's special."

Alonso, the Mets' 24-year-old rookie who has quickly become the face of the team, sent a message to fans on Twitter just before the Mets' recent tear that this season was not over yet. So, of course it was Alonso who delievered with the go-ahead home run in the seventh that sent the stadium into a frenzy.

"L-F-G-M. Let's go," Alonso said to the fans during an on-field interview with SNY after the game. The acronym stands for "Let's F--king Go Mets."

"I'm just really appreciative of all the fans, the support, kind of before the All-Star break we haven't been where we wanted but people are still showing rabid support," Alonso continued in the locker room. "I really care. I play not just for the guys in this clubhouse, I play for the fans."

Alonso had been struggling prior to his go-ahead home run, though. The slugger had not homered in 10 games -- dating back to July 26 -- his longest drought of the season. He also entered the game with just 12 hits in 77 at-bats since the All-Star break, so not only was his home run euphoric for the Mets, it was a relief for himself.

"Any time you hit a homer in a really close game it's really fun and a really cool experience," he said. "I'm just really happy I could really contribute today, this past month as been pretty rough, but ever since Mercury came out of retrograde I think I'm okay."

Whatever is going on, the Mets are winning ballgames and suddenly they find themselves back in a playoff hunt.

Conforto, who entered Monday with an OPS of .920 since the All-Star break and knocked in three more runs in the second game of the doubleheader, believes that for whatever reason, the team is just showing what it can do when they are clicking on all cylinders.

"It's the attitude we've taken all year," Conforto said. "We've battled back early in the year through some tough stretches, I don't think that's changed. I think now we're playing complete baseball. Our starters are doing what they're capable of and we're putting the whole thing together. The true colors of this team are starting to come out."

If that is true, it could set up a historic finish to what was once thought of as a lost season.

"Everyone knew we had a chance to compete if we played to our potential," Conforto added. "And I think we're doing that now and digging out of the hole we put ourselves in."
