Relying on their bullpen for much of the game, the Mets had no answers against the Baltimore Orioles lineup, losing 10-3 on Friday night.

Here are the takeaways...

- It was close up until the bottom of the sixth inning. Ironically, the Mets actually tied the game in the top of the sixth and kept the game within reach before then, going down 2-0 in the fourth.

- Making his first start since July 8, David Peterson (who had been pitching out of the bullpen for the last few weeks) got into early trouble in the first inning, loading the bases with a couple of walks and a single. The lefty showed some promise, though, by not breaking and striking out Ryan O’Hearn to leave them loaded.

From there, Peterson faced the minimum through the next two innings and held a potent Orioles offense at bay. Since he hadn’t been stretched out in a while, Peterson finished his night after three innings and 52 pitches (30 strikes). He allowed no runs on one hit, three walks and struck out one.

- The Mets’ bullpen picked it up from there and didn’t fare as well, leaving a lot to be desired. John Curtiss allowed the game’s first two runs to score in his lone inning of work on former Met James McCann’s two-run single.

- After Josh Walker, who was just happy to be out of Kansas City, pitched a scoreless fifth, New York struck back. Three walks loaded the bases for Francisco Lindor who singled off Dean Kremer to bring in two runs for the Mets that tied the game at 2-2. The hit knocked Kremer out of the game and he was replaced by Mike Baumann who promptly induced a double play off the bat of Pete Alonso that ended the rally.

It got ugly from there.

- Making his second appearance for New York since getting traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Phil Bickford started off strong with a strikeout but things went downhill fast. Baltimore retook the lead on O’Hearn’s RBI single before McCann wreaked havoc on his old team once again with a two-run double.

- Reed Garrett, the former Oriole, came in and allowed a sacrifice fly but managed to get out of the inning. He went back out there for the seventh and couldn’t get the same result, allowing a double, single and three-run home run that gave the Birds a 9-2 lead and broke the game wide open.

After Garrett walked his next batter, Trevor Gott replaced him. Two more singles, the second of which coming off the bat of McCann, added to the Orioles lead to make it 10-2. McCann, who came into the game batting .197 with 10 RBI on the season, finished 3-for-3 with five RBI.

- The Mets had four hits and scored three runs. They’ve now scored five runs over their last three games.
