Mets Minor League Roundup: Luisangel Acuna, Mike Vasil shine for Triple-A Syracuse

Plus, Brandon Sproat struggles in promotion from Double-A Binghamton

Here's the latest news and buzz on the Mets' top prospects...


OF Drew Gilbert

The 2022 MLB Draft's No. 28 overall pick strung together three straight games with a hit, last Tuesday through Thursday against the Worcester Red Sox, after a pair of hitless appearances Aug. 3-4 at the Columbus Clippers. Through 19 games for Triple-A Syracuse, Gilbert is slashing .214/.321/.286 with one home run and two RBI.

1B/OF Ryan Clifford

Clifford posted back-to-back appearances with hits in Double-A Binghamton's Saturday and Sunday games at the Somerset Patriots. In 67 games at Binghamton, Clifford is slashing .216/.349/.458 with 13 home runs and 41 RBI.

INF Luisangel Acuna

On a tear since last Tuesday against Worcester, Acuna is on a five-game hit streak. The trend includes one home run and two multi-hit games. Through six games in August, Acuna is slashing .368/.368/.737 with four RBI. For the season with Triple-A, Acuna has a .267/.314/.375 slash line and six home runs, 41 RBI and 31 stolen bases over 103 games.

RHP Brandon Sproat

Promoted to Syracuse last Monday, Sproat's Triple-A debut was not his best. He allowed six runs on seven hits (two homers) while striking out four and walking three in 4.2 IP. Before the bump, Sproat was 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 11 starts for Binghamton.

INF Colin Houck

The 2023 draft's No. 32 pick has four hits through seven games for Low-A St. Lucie in August after a solo home run in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Bradenton Marauders. Through 93 games for St. Lucie, Houck is slashing .207/.305/.317 with five homers and 45 RBI.

C Kevin Parada

The 2022 draft's No. 11 pick is slashing .222/.314/.374 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI through 87 games for Binghamton. After back-to-back games with a hit last Tuesday and Wednesday at Somerset, Parada posted an 0-for-9 stretch that included two walks over three games to close the series.

RHP Mike Vasil

Vasil tied his season-high eight strikeouts Saturday against Worcester. He allowed two runs on four hits while fanning eight and walking one in six innings. Through 22 games (20 starts) for Syracuse this season, Vasil is 6-7 with a 5.31 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 103.1 IP.

RHP Dom Hamel

Three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking five in 3.1 IP last Wednesday against Worcester add up to Hamel's second straight rough start. Previously, Aug. 1 at Columbus, Hamel allowed four runs on five hits while striking out four and walking four in 4.1 IP. Through 20 games for Syracuse, Hamel is 3-5 with a 6.41 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in 92.2 IP.
