Mets Minor League Roundup: Drew Gilbert returns to Triple-A; Dom Hamel impresses

Plus, Kevin Parada finishes his strong July on a tear

Here's the latest news and buzz on the Mets' top prospects...


OF Drew Gilbert

Gilbert returned to Triple-A Syracuse's lineup for the first time since April on Tuesday night, going 1-for-5. The 22-year-old then went 0-for-3 with a walk on Thursday, 1-for-5 on Saturday, and then 0-for-2 with three walks and a stolen base on Sunday. He's now hitting .200 with one homer and six walks over 11 games in Triple-A this season.

1B/OF Ryan Clifford

Clifford went 4-for-24 with two doubles, two RBI, and three walks over five games against the Richmond Flying Squirrels this past week. Clifford recently spoke with SNY's Joe DeMayo about his impressive rise as a prospect, as he has an .872 OPS with 13 home runs, 16 doubles, 36 RBI, and 39 walks in Double-A since his May 13 promotion.

INF Luisangel Acuna

After an 0-for-5 performance in the first game of the six-game series against Buffalo, Acuna recorded at least one hit over the next four straight contests, including an RBI triple on July 25. He's slashing .261/.310/.356 with five homers, five triples, 13 doubles, 34 RBI and 27 walks over 95 games.

RHP Brandon Sproat

After shining in the All-Star Futures Game, the 23-year-old Sproat allowed three runs over 4.0 IP on July 21 and then followed that up on Saturday with three earned runs on four hits over 5.0 IP against Richmond. After owning a 1.99 ERA with 23 K's over four starts in June, Sproat has pitched to a 4.60 ERA with 21 strikeouts this month in three games (15.2 innings).

RHP Dom Hamel

Hamel struck out nine on Friday night against Buffalo, allowing just two runs on seven hits over 6.0 IP. It's his third outing with nine-plus strikeouts this year (two nine-strikeout performances and one 10-strikeout game). Through 18 starts, the 25-year-old has a 1.65 WHIP and 89 strikeouts over 85.0 IP.

C Kevin Parada

In Binghamton's five-game series against Richmond, Parada had three two-hit games, including three straight with a double. The backstop is having a very strong July, hitting .323 with three homers, four doubles, and eight RBI over 68 at-bats.

INF Colin Houck

Houck had a tough week for Low-A St. Lucie against the Palm Beach Cardinals, recording just one hit over five games. Through 84 games, the 19-year-old Houck -- the Mets' No. 32 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft -- is slashing .204/.299/.298 with three home runs, four triples, 12 doubles and 38 RBI.

RHP Mike Vasil

Vasil got the start on July 24 against Buffalo and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over just four innings. He owns a 5.76 ERA and 1.52 WHIP with 67 strikeouts over 19 games (17 starts) and 84.1 innings.
