In this Mets post game news conference, Max Scherzer said it was his responsibility as the second starter in a doubleheader, "to protect your bullpen as a starting pitcher." He pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out eleven, and was in complete sync with catcher Tomas Nido all game long. Scherzer had made some adjustments during his bullpen sessions which allowed him to command and locate all his pitches. He also credited second baseman Luis Guillorme with a huge defensive play in the fifth inning, which prevented a run.
