After dominating the Philadelphia Phillies in his first start of the season, Mets RHP Marcus Stroman praised Major League Baseball’s recent decision to move its 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta.

The move was a response to a new Georgia law that restricts voting access, particularly to communities of color, and came after President Biden encouraged MLB to do so. According to sources, the decision was commissioner Rob Manfred’s to make, and was not subject to bargaining or an agreement with the Players Association.

“I think it was a great decision,” Stroman said. “I think it was needed. I think that you heard that from a lot of guys around the league. With the climate we’re in, I think they made the right call.”

When the Braves released a statement on Friday objecting to MLB’s decision, Stroman criticized it, writing “Worst press release of all time.”

Asked on Tuesday if he would have attended or boycotted the game had it remained in Atlanta and had he been selected, Stroman said:

“I only think about tomorrow, man. I would never say ‘If I made the All-Star Game.’ But I’m sure it would be a discussion I would have with my family, and I would handle it from there.”
