Jeurys Familia is one game shy of his 500th career appearance - 469 of his 499 has come in a Mets uniform.

His next one could very well be his last, as he is set to hit free agency upon season's end.

Realizing his time in New York may be almost over, Familia had a heartfelt message on Instagram on Saturday.

"I have no words to describe all my feelings for New York I know that things have not been easy but every day that I get out of bed one of the first things that cross my mind is what to do to be better and give the best to the best fans in the world of baseball," Familia said. "the [sic] mets organization gave me the opportunity to see my dream come true and I will never forget it. I have a very large tattoo in the depths of my heart that says mets for life."

Familia owns a 3.27 ERA in 10 seasons with the Mets - he did, however, blow three saves in the 2015 World Series, allowed the game-winning home run in the 2016 Wild Card Game, and has not been vintage Familia since signing a three-year deal with the Mets before the 2019 season.

"For the fans, despite all the boos, bad words and everything bad that they may think of me or wish me," Familia wrote, "I put myself in their chair and I understand it perfectly, they have been waiting for a championship for many years and they will always occupy an important space in my life."

But Familia was still an important piece to the Mets' World Series run in 2015, and has been a quality reliever this year, striking out a career-best 10.9 batters per nine innings.

Familia ended his message to Met fans on a positive note.

"{T}hank you LGM for life".
