Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided brief updates on injured relievers Dedniel Nunez and Reed Garrett prior to Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
Nunez threw from 110 feet with intensity on Wednesday and the skipper says he's getting close to taking the next step as he works his way back from a right pronator strain.
As long as everything continues progressing as planned, the hope is that the young right-hander will be able to get back on a mound to throw a bullpen session as soon as this weekend.
Nunez landed on the injured list back on July 26, but with him no longer feeling soreness in his elbow and finally trending in the right direction, he could be back with the team sooner rather than later.
Garrett is much closer to making his return as he's set to jump back into the mix for the Mets' revamped bullpen during their upcoming three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.
Mendoza said they may not officially activate him immediately, but they expect him to be ready to roll at some point as they close out the West Coast trip with a weekend set.
After allowing three runs during his lone appearance with Double-A Binghamton, Garrett rebounded nicely to close his rehab assignment with seven strikeouts over three scoreless frames in two outings with Syracuse.
Getting him, and eventually Nunez, back will certainly be a nice boost for the revamped Mets bullpen.
