Here is the latest news and possible return dates for Mets players on the IL...

Noah Syndergaard was activated from the IL on Sept. 28 and slotted in to pitch Game 2 of that day's Mets doubleheader against the Miami Marlins

Jacob deGrom (elbow inflammation)

DeGrom was shut down for the season on Sept. 28, despite him having checked "all the boxes" as he worked toward a return, manager Luis Rojas said.

Per Rojas, deGrom threw a side session on Sept. 27 and likely would've faced hitters next before facing the Atlanta Braves during the last series of the season had the Mets still be in contention.

But with the Mets eliminated from playoff contention, Rojas said the decision from all involved was that there was "no point" of having deGrom pitch in a game again this season.

"He was fine to pitch after the side yesterday, but it's just not -- at this point it just doesn't make any sense to have him go out there and compete, so he's not gonna pitch," Rojas told reporters via Zoom.

Added Rojas:

"Everyone is fully on board. Jake is fully on board, just from the explanation. There wasn't any pull (in one direction) more than others. Just everyone (felt) it's the right thing. "

Speaking on Sept. 9, after Mets president Sandy Alderson said deGrom had been dealing with a slight UCL tear that resolved itself, deGrom said his UCL was "perfectly fine."

The last game deGrom appeared in this season was before the All-Star break on July 7.

Potential return date: 2022

Robert Gsellman (lat)

Gsellman tossed an inning for Triple-A Syracuse Sept. 25 and allowed two runs on three hits. In his last appearance for Low-A St. Lucie, he allowed three earned runs and three hits while striking out one over 0.2 innings.

The right-hander has been on the 60-day IL since June 23 with a lat issue, but could be back in the bullpen later this year to finish the regular season.

Gsellman last pitched June 19 against the Washington Nationals, when he allowed one run on three hits in 2.0 innings while serving as the opener.

Potential return date: TBD

Drew Smith (right shoulder inflammation)

The Mets announced Aug. 14 that Smith was on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

The 27-year-old Smith, who last pitched Aug. 13, has appeared in 31 games for the Mets this season, pitching to a 2.40 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 41.1 innings.

Potential return date: TBD

J.D. Davis (hand), Joey Lucchesi (Tommy John surgery), Dellin Betances (shoulder surgery) and David Peterson (oblique/foot) are out for the season
