The Mets have found their next general manager.

The team announced the hire of former Diamondbacks exec Jared Porter as the team's GM on Sunday.

"I'd like to thank Steve Cohen and Sandy Alderson for this incredible opportunity," Porter said in an official statement. "I'm extremely grateful for the trust they've shown in me. I'm excited to join the community, get to work, and help build a collaborative and sustainable baseball operation and culture for the New York Mets."

Alderson added: "Jared has proven himself at every level and in every position he has held, earning respect from his peers throughout baseball. He is deeply knowledgeable in all aspects of the game and has worked with several accomplished baseball executives. Jared is prepared for this next challenge."

Porter has been a part of four World Series championship teams, including three with the Red Sox and one with the Chicago Cubs, working with the likes of Theo Epstein and Ben Cherington.

Most recently the Diamondbacks' senior vice president and assistant general manager, Porter also spent parts of two seasons with the Cubs as the team's director of pro scouting/special assistant, and was with the team when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.

Porter, 41, worked his way up through the Red Sox system, starting as an intern and ending up as the team’s director of pro scouting from 2012-15.

Porter has built up a good reputation in the game, according to Martino, both as an evaluator and a professional.

"Talking to people who know Porter already, (they) just say, 'Good guy, knows his stuff, prepared, knows how to evaluate players,'" Martino said.

Former Mets exec Allard Baird, who worked with Porter in Boston, also had good things to say about the new Mets GM.

"He's got a strong executive presence with a compassion for people," Baird said, via Mike Puma of the New York Post. "I think that will really stand out.

"(Porter) will have an ability to manage up very well with a real commitment of organization above one's self. He has an appreciation for both the subjective and objective analytic aspect in evaluations. He appreciates both."
