Mets GM Zack Scott took some time Monday before the series opener against the Colorado Rockies at home to provide updates on several key players currently on the IL.
In doing so, we have a rough estimate as to when Carlos Carrasco could be finally debuting for New York.
The veteran right-hander has been dealing with a torn right hamstring, which the team has said he's progressing from slowly rather than suffering a setback. Scott, though, believes he could be returning as early as late June.
"Carlos, if I’m going to put a time estimate on it, probably looking at maybe late June-early July. That type of timeframe," he told reporters via Zoom.
"He’s working hard. I talked to him – he was on the road with the team. Had a chance to talk to him. He’s feeling good."
Scott added that once Carrasco's rehab starts to intensify -- that could come when he begins facing live hitting again -- the team will get a better feel on when he's actually be able to make his debut for the club.
"I think those things come down to kinda like what we talked about before when you start ramping up the intensity as you get closer and you see where the guy is from there.
"He’s not at that highest intensity level yet. So we’ll learn more when he gets there. I know he feels good right now and feels like the ball is coming out of his hand well. We’ll take it from there.”
