    Who is starting for the Mets?

    Thomas Szapuckiwho is making his first big league start. Szapucki got his first taste of the majors last season, making one relief appearance. But he was shut down soon after and had ulnar nerve transposition surgery.

    Now healthy, Szapucki pitched well for Triple-A Syracuse before being called up, with a 2.86 ERA and 1.31 WHIP to go along with 30 strikeouts in 22 innings over seven starts. That's a rate of 12.3 strikeouts per 9, not far from Szapucki's career minor league strikeout rate of 11.2 per 9.

    Who is starting for the Giants?

    Jakob Junis, who allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings while walking none and  striking out two against the San Diego Padres last Friday. In five games this season (three starts), Junis has a 2.70 ERA (3.65 FIP) and 1.01 WHIP with 20 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.

    The Mets are off on Thursday.

    They return home to open a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night at 7:10.
