Days after adding a prominent member to general manager Billy Eppler’s inner circle, the Mets are subtracting from it. According to two major league sources, longtime executive Bryn Alderson is no longer an assistant general manager, and is in fact leaving the organization.

The news comes after Eppler recently added Carlos Beltran as a special assistant, the first of what the Mets know should be several hires with field experience.

Alderson, the son of outgoing team president Sandy Alderson, has been with the Mets since 2011, when he came on as a pro scout. He became pro scouting director in 2019, and was promoted to assistant GM under Zack Scott in 2021.

Since becoming GM in late 2021, Eppler has remade the front office, hiring Jonathan Strangio as vice president of baseball operations, Nate Horowitz as senior director of player personnel, Nick Spar as director of baseball operations, Steve Martone as a special assistant, and Elizabeth Benn as director of major league operations.
