The Mets added a left-hander to their bullpen mix on Friday, claiming Stephen Tarpley off waivers from the Miami Marlins.

The 27-year-old appeared in 12 games with Marlins last season, pitching to a 9.00 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 11.0 innings.

Before his stint in South Florida, Tarpley spent two years with the Yankees, appearing in 31 games, including one start as an opener. In pinstripes, Tarpley pitched to a 5.88 ERA and 1.812 WHIP, totaling 33.2 innings.

Tarpley, like most lefties, is at his best facing left-hander hitters, as opposing batters have hit just .203 (15-for-88) against him over the course of his career, as he’s allowed just four extra-base hits to lefties.

The Los Angeles native was originally a third-round pick by the Orioles in 2013.
