Things you should know about tonight's game...
1) Despite being handed a 4-0 lead, Vargas (5-9) could not get out of the fourth inning when the Dodgers scored three times, aided by a Todd Frazier error. The 35-year-old was charged with five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 frames. It was his shortest non-weather interrupted start since he lasted 2 1/3 innings against the Rockies on June 19. Vargas was looking to win four consecutive starts for the first time since last September.
2) The Dodgers broke the game open in the seventh by scoring six times off Corey Oswalt and Jacob Rhame. Oswalt was charged with five runs on four hits -- three doubles -- a walk and a run-scoring wild pitch without recording an out. Seven of the first eight Los Angeles batters reached safely in the inning.
3) Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto hit two-run homers in the second and third innings to give New York a 4-0 lead. Amed Rosario doubled twice and walked, Brandon Nimmo singled twice while Frazier and Bruce had multi-hit efforts in defeat. The Mets loaded the bases in the ninth with no outs but did not score.
4) Eric Hanhold allowed a hit and struck out a batter in 1 1/3 innings during his Major League debut.
