Harol Gonzalez will start the Grapefruit League opener for the Mets on Monday against the Marlins, while former Marlin Jordan Yamamoto will get the ball for the team’s home opener against the Astros on Tuesday, manager Luis Rojas announced on Saturday.
Gonzalez, 25, was a non-roster invitee to spring training this season. In 25 appearances (23 starts) between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse in 2019, the right-hander posted a 12-4 record with a 3.01 ERA, striking out 112 hitters and walking 33 over 137 2/3 innings.
The Mets traded for Yamamoto, 24, in February after he spent his first two big-league seasons with the Marlins. In 19 career appearances (18 starts), the right-hander has a 4-6 record with a 6.20 ERA, along with 95 strikeouts and 43 walks in 90 innings.
Tuesday’s game is one of 11 spring training games that will air on either SNY or PIX11 this year. First pitch for Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 1:10 p.m., with coverage on SNY beginning at 1 p.m.
