Mekhi Becton's 'unusual traits' made him an easy choice for the Jets with 11th pick of 2020 NFL Draft

When the Jets found themselves on the clock at No. 11 of Thursday's first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, they took the best player available on their board, who also happened to be the biggest player in the draft.

Louisville's Mekhi Becton figures to instantly add some much-needed depth at the tackle spots for the Jets, as he's the latest addition to what was a subpar line in 2019. And while GM Joe Douglas doesn't want to commit just yet to exactly what side of the line Becton will play on, he's clearly excited with the newest Jets.

Speaking to SNY's Jeane Coakley, Douglas said it was Becton's "unusual traits" that made him stand out.

"So when we got together and were doing our strategy meetings, we usually work from the worst-case scenario back, and I think a lot of people were surprised that Mekhi was there at pick 11," Douglas said. "The first thing that jumps out, there's a lot of unusual traits about Mekhi: his size, his length, his athleticism at his size, certainly an eye opening 40 when he ran the 5.10, so I think there are a lot of unusual traits that really got quite a few people excited in our building."
