With Jeff McNeil on the injured list since May 17, the next men up have filled his shoes nicely.

Jose Peraza has had some clutch home runs, while Jonathan Villar is hitting .340 (16-for-47) with a .990 OPS in his last 14 games.

Luis Guillorme also recently returned from the IL, and his defense speaks for itself. His bat is now also a force to be reckoned with.

With a plethora of infielders performing well, McNeil will see some time in the outfield when he returns to the lineup, most likely this week, Luis Rojas told reporters on Tuesday.

“I told him to have his [rehab] game or two in the outfield and do some second base. Everyone for me right now, the way a lot of guys are playing that are in the lineup or on the roster, everyone should stay fresh in all the positions they can play. Mac is one of them," Rojas said. "We can have some moving parts, because guys are playing really well at second base. He’s gonna play second base, but he may play left field. So we may have moving parts."

Considering Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto are still some ways away from returning, it makes sense -- McNeil has 916 big league innings under his belt in the outfield.

That leaves a decision to be made with guys like Billy McKinney, who is slashing .283/.353/.696 in 14 games. But Rojas reiterated that he could see time at center field.

And who knows what happens when Conforto and Nimmo -- and J.D. Davis -- do come back?

But with guys earning more playing time, Rojas has plenty of chapters in his playbook.

"Guys are gonna move around, Villar playing third. Gulllorme, he may play third, he may play second. Guys should be practicing different positions. Even Guillorme at short, just for any day that we want to give [Francisco] Lindor a day off. But I told Mac to work out or maybe have some innings in different positions.”
