Frankie Montas gets all the hype, but veteran Lou Trivino came over in the Yankees' trade with the Oakland A's to potentially help bolster the bullpen.
Trivino, who will be available out of the bullpen on Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners, hasn't been pitching to the clip he's used to in his fifth MLB season. He owns a 6.47 ERA over 32 innings thus far, which is the highest mark of his career as well as his 1.88 WHIP.
But Trivino wouldn't be the first player to join the Yanks and turn things around, which is what he's hoping to do for this World Series-caliber squad. He explained to reporters what he believes has been happening to cause those inflated numbers.
"It’s been a little disappointing, but at the same time -- I know I’ve said this -- I feel really good," he said. "Feel like I’m throwing the ball well, I’m just not getting the results I would expect to get. The ball batted in play, people are hitting whatever it is off me. But I feel like a lot of that is weak contact and sometimes baseball’s just a very cruel game. I feel really good and feel I can contribute to this team.”
Trivino added that he spoke briefly with pitching coach Matt Blake about what he believes he should be throwing more.
