Right-hander Lou Trivino is officially back with the Yankees after agreeing to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with a $5 million club option for the 2025 season.
Trivino, who was spotted at the spring training facility to take his physical on Wednesday, was non-tendered by the team earlier this offseason.
The veteran reliever underwent Tommy John surgery after suffering a right elbow strain last May, and he is expected to miss a large chunk of this season. A typical return-to-play timeline for pitchers following TJS is 12-to-18 months.
Trivino was acquired via trade from the Oakland Athletics along with Frankie Montas in 2022.
He pitched well during his first season in the Bronx, posting a 1.66 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 22 strikeouts across 25 appearances, but didn't take the mound at all in 2023 as he dealt with elbow issues.
During his five-year career, Trivino has a 3.86 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a strikeout rate of 9.5 per nine.
In a corresponding roster move, young outfielder Jasson Dominguez has been placed on the 60-day IL as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery.
