The Knicks announced guard Matt Mooney has signed with the team to a 10-day hardship exemption on Tuesday.
Mooney is averaging 15.2 points, 4.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.17 steals over 32.8 minutes in 12 games (10 starts) for the Capitanes de Ciudad de México, an official NBA G League team. He's played over three seasons in the G League, but does have some NBA experience.
The 24-year-old played four games with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2019-20 season.
The Chicago native went undrafted in 2019 after leading Texas Tech University to the school's first-ever NCAA Final Four. As a senior, Mooney averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 38 games.
On Monday, the Knicks had brought in a familiar face as a reinforcement.
Damyean Dotson, the former second-round pick by New York, signed a 10-day hardship exemption to return to the Knicks, SNY's Ian Begley reported.
Dotson had been playing with the G League Austin Spurs (San Antonio) where he averaged 12.9 points on 47.4 percent shooting over 34.9 minutes per game.
Last season, Dotson played 46 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 19.7 minutes. He scored 6.7 points per game with 2.0 assists.
The Knicks are still without RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Kevin Knox, Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, and Miles McBride, who all remain in COVID protocol.
